Exmouth Town go nap / Cockles lose away – again/ Withycombe and Budleigh Salterton both thrashed / First win for Exmouth Town Reserves / East Budleigh net win double

There were mixed fortunes for the top Exmouth rugby and football teams as the Cockles suffered a 28th defeat in their last 30 away league games when they went down 31-41 at Ivybridge in a South West Premier League game, but at Southern Road, Exmouth Town’s footballers were 5-0 winners over Godolphin Atlantic to maintain their superb form in this season’s South West Peninsula League Premier Division. It ends a wonderful week for Town who were 1-0 winners at Plymouth Argyle Reserves on Tuesday night. Leading scorer Ace High scored twice and the other town goals came from Karl Rickard, Aaron Denny and Jimmy Hinds.

It was a tough afternoon for Budleigh Salterton as they were thrashed 11-0 in their league game at Torridgeside.

Back to rugby, and across at Withycombe the Raleigh Park faithful saw a game to forget as Withy were crushed 92-0 by high-flying Honiton in a Tribute Cornwall and Devon League meeting.

In other local football – and specifically in the Macron Devon and Exeter League there was a first Premier Division win of the season for Exmouth Town Reserves as they won 1-0 at Heavitree United.

In Division Three Budleigh Salterton Reserves also bagged their first win of the league campaign as they defeated North Tawton 6-2. East Budleigh also won, the Jays were 2-1 home winners over Sandford and there was a 3-0 home win for Otterton over Tedburn St Mary.

In Division Five Exmouth Spartans were 4-1 home winners over Westexe Park Rangers and in Division Seven East Budleigh Reserves emulated their first team with a similar score, winning 2-1 at Broadclyst. Otterton Reserves went down 6-0 at Village Inn in Exeter.

In Division Eight Lympstone Reserves were 4-1 winners over Topsham Town Reserves but there was defeat for Exmouth Town thirds, beaten 5-0 at Sandford Reserves.
