Budleigh Salterton ladies were 6-3 winners when they entertained Plymouth-based Signal Box Oak Villa in a Westward Developments, Devon Women’s League Division One encounter, writes SpursTom.

Fresh from their win over a league newcomer the week before, the Robinettes faced what looked a tough game against another new side in the division that had made a flying start to the campaign and pitched up at Greenway Lane sitting top of the table.

In a lively start, chances were created at both ends of the pitch, but it was the Robinettes who broke the deadlock with two goals in as many minutes!

It was the prolific Amy Salter who opened the scoring, latching on to a pin-point pass from Ebony Lacey and Salter was quickly back on the score sheet with her second – a terrific individual effort. A through-ball from Leah Rawlings provided the assist for Ben Long to make it 3-0, but just before the break the visitors got a goal back from a corner.

Just two minutes into the second half and the Robinettes once again held a three-goal lead with Jen Cordwell racing clear to calmly score and, four minutes later, Cordwell scored again to make it 5-1.

Tactical changes were needed by the visitors; a new attacking policy and a battling spirit brought them two goals in a 20 minute spell.

A smart save by Robinettes goalkeeper Maddie Walsh led to a corner from which the visitors scored and they got a third from a free-kick to close the gap to just two goals at 5-3.

However, despite the closing stages being full of end-to-end action and a goal mouth incident, there was just one more goal netted, scored by Emma Worsley, to see the Robinettes to a deserved victory.

Both teams were praised by referee Maurice Beckenham, who controlled the game very well.
