Budleigh Salterton took to the pitch last night for the first time under the management of Matt Hughes, who has taken charge of the Robins now that John Pannell has stepped aside.

John’s last game was Saturday’s 4-1 cup defeat at Ilfracombe Town and the outgoing boss is mighty keen to express his sincere thanks to a number of people who have made looking after the Budleigh first team that little bit easier than it might otherwise have been.

In particular, John is keen to thank Derek Sampson, who has operated as a number two and also linesman on the occasions that regular ‘lino’ Mike England was unable to do flag duties.

Darren Fargoe is another who has been a great support in his role of goalkeeping coach – both he and Derek are staying active with the Robins under the new boss – and also Sean Slater, another who has always been happy to help John wherever and whenever.

Last, but most certainly not least, the outgoing Robins boss wishes to place on record his sincere thanks to the first team squad for all their collective efforts so far this season.

John Pannell is certainly not being ‘lost’ to the Robins for he will retain a huge interest in all things Budleigh FC through his son George, who is a regular in the first team and who scored the Robins’ goal at Ilfracombe.
