Otterton win well at Sandford

Otterton were 3-2 winners when they visited Sandford for a Macron League Division Three game.

In what were difficult conditions, Otterton found themselves a goal down early on when a shot, initially saved well by glovesman Micheal Simpson, took an unlucky deflection from defender Gary May before nestling in the back of the net!

Parity was restored when winger Chris Swancott delivered a superb cross that Lee Mitchell headed home – scoring his 100th Otterton goal in the process!

Tom Matthew then provided assists for first Ryan Wright and then Ryan Neville as Otterton took a 3-1 lead into the break.

The start of the second half saw Otterton again begin sluggishly and they shipped a second to have their lead halved. The home side pressed for a third, but got little change out of the impressive Jamie Cardwell and Jonny Killick in the Otterton defence.

In front of them, Ryan Wright kept looking to orchestrate positive forward play while strikers Mitchell and Lidstone carried a continual threat as the game ran its course leaving Otterton deserved winners.

Manager Danny Marish said: “It won’t get any more difficult on the road this season than this latest trip to Sandford. The lads thoroughly deserved the three points after an outstanding performance.”

On Saturday (September 29) Otterton, who are up to third in the table, entertain Tedburn St Mary (3pm).

Otterton: Simpson, May, Matthew, Preece, Neville, Swancott, Cardwell, Killick, Wright, Mitchell, Lidstone.
