Otterton win a fifth straight game as flying start to season continues

Otterton made it five successive Macron League Division Three wins with a 3-0 success over visiting Tedburn St Mary.

The Otters began well, but were unable to make their domination pay until a pin-point pass by Tom Matthew found Kev Pitt, who volleyed home.

The lead was doubled when Jamie Cardwell drilled the ball home in a crowded area. Otterton did not have things all their own way though, and home glovesman Mike Simpson made a number of fine saves. Just before the break Lee Mitchell had an effort well saved and the Otters trooped off at the interval with a 2-0 lead.

The third and final goal arrived midway through the second half when the ever-dangerous Ryan Wright scored. Simpson was called into action again, pulling off a couple of fine saves to deservedly bag himself a clean sheet. At the other end of the pitch Matt Lidstone and Pitt spurned late chances to add to the home tally. Yet again, the foundation of the win was another solid defensive display from Ryan Neville, Gary May, Jake Preece and Tom Matthew, who collectively kept a lively Tedburn front line quiet while, in midfield, Jonny Killick and Jamie Cardwell were the dominant force throughout.

Otterton boss Danny Marish said: “I’m delighted with the team and with another clean sheet. The back five had another superb afternoon and it’s no surprise they have only conceded two goals in last four games.”

On Saturday (October 6) Otterton are in Bill Slee Cup action at Beer Albion Reserves (2pm).
