Morris hat-trick as Upottery Reserves net home win

Upottery seconds continue their impressive start to the Macron Devon and Exeter League Division Five season with a 4-2 win at Glebe Park against Starcross Generals.

What made the win – a fourth straight league success – was that the side went into the game with just a bare 11 owing to unavailability and call-ups to the first team.

One of the 11 on duty though, was club ‘legend’ Daniel Symons, who took on the role of glovesman, and did so with aplomb.

Five minutes in, Upottery took the lead when Ashley Munt pressured the keeper before playing the ball square to Brad Morris, who tucked it home. The visitors levelled on the half hour, but Upottery were able to take a 2-1 lead into the break thanks to a superb 35-yard strike from right back Brett Sellick, scoring his first goal for the Otters in the process!

At half-time it became apparent that Harry Leisk, who was playing his first game back from injury, was still struggling, and it left team boss Alex McCreadie-Taylor to put himself in goal and play Symons in a midfield berth.

Five minutes after the restart, Ash Munt was upended in the area and Brad Morris slammed the resultant spot kick home.

Starcross bagged a second, but Upottery were not to be denied the points and they were sealed by Brad Morris completing his hat-trick, scoring a fine team-goal with Gavin Richards responsible for the ‘assist’

Hat-trick scoring Morris was named Man of the Match with Brett Sellick, who was excellent in his defensive duties but also a threat on the attack, running him close for the honour.

On Saturday (September 29), Upottery are in action at Silver Street, Willand where they will meet Bravehearts (3pm).
