Millwey Rise Reserves continue winning run

Millwey Rise Reserves continued their run of wins in their penultimate game of the season by defeating another team above them in the league table, Pinhoe, claiming a 4-2 victory over the Exeter-based side, writes Dick Sturch.

However, Millwey were as bad in the first half as they were as good in the second!

For 35 minutes of the first period Pinhoe were dominant and had several opportunities to take the lead before the home side made any impression. Millwey came good in the last ten minutes of the half and Mark Pike rifled home a good goal. But with little time left before the whistle Pinhoe came back and forced a great save out of Terry Male. Then seconds later they pulled one back to equalise.

Millwey were a different team in the second period. They dominated the game for long periods and but for some untaken opportunities should have won by a far greater margin than the final score of 4-2 indicates. Having missed a penalty ‘Rise’ went on to score through Shane Featherstone with two goals and one from Tyler Allen. Pinhoe added a second late in the game with an opportunist breakaway.

For Millwey, Keith Forsey returning from injury had a good game in midfield and Mark Pike, as usual, got through a lot of work in midfield and attack.

Millwey’s final games are at Cloakham this weekend. On Saturday (May 19) the first team play Black Swan (3pm) and the following day (May 20) the second team host Thorverton (2pm).
