Archant

Two goals from Max Mckeown and one from Dan Stapleton saw Dunkeswell Rovers to a 3-0 home win over Starcross Generals which brought the Dunks a seven-day Macron League Division Five double over the Generals, who they beat 5-1 in South Devon the previous matchday.

Stapleton fired them ahead from close range before a Joby Mabbutt corner was headed home by Mckeown to make it 2-0.

The Dunks were then reduced to 10-men when Josh Cann reacted to an over-zealous challenge, but even a man down, the home side held a healthy measure of control and a second assist from young Mabbut led to Mckeown doubling his tally to seal a 3-0 win.

Such was the control the Dunks enjoyed throughout the contest was the fact that it was not until the closing minutes that home glovesman Graham Killick was called into action!

Teenager Joby Mabbut deservedly landed the dunks’ Man of the Match honours.

After the game the Dunks dedicated the success to the memory of Jason Page, a tremendous character, the sort that every football club needs – a ‘true legend’ – he will be sorely missed and both teams observed a minutes silence in his memory prior to kick-off.

On Saturday (October 27) Dunkeswell entertain a Bampton Reserve side that currently sit fourth in the Division Five table, one place behind the Dunks. Both teams are on 10 points, but the Dunks have played a game fewer than Bampton.
