Mary King, International three-day event rider will take centre stage at this year’s South West Christmas Equine Fair.

Riding enthusiasts from all over the Westcountry are set to descend upon the South West Christmas Equine Fair when it returns to Westpoint, Exeter on Saturday, December 3 and 4.

This mainstay of the equine calendar, which enters its sixteenth year in 2011, attracts over 10,000 visitors each year and offers them the chance to see some of the biggest names from the equestrian world in action.

Mary king is one of the most inspirational and successful women in three-day eventing and really needs very little introduction! A world class gold medallist, five times Olympic rider, winner at Badminton Horse Trials amongst others and an award winning horse breeder.

Mary did not grow up in a horsey family, but she managed to persuade her mother to lead her on the vicar’s horse Silver around the village. Inspired by a visit to Badminton Horse Trials with Axe Vale Pony Club at the age of 11, she realised she wanted to become a professional three-day-event rider and worked tirelessly on a butcher’s delivery round, chalet girl, gardener and cook, anything to fund her career!

It has not always been plain sailing, but Mary has let little get in the way of her success!

The South West Christmas Equine Fair will see Mary providing two educational and entertaining demonstrations on each show day in the Supreme Equine Arena. Visitors will be given hints and tips that can be used by riders of all levels in order to progress their own ability.

The event will also feature international show jumper Philip Spivey and Western Reining Champion Shane Borland, Stallion Parades, Pony Club horse & hound show jumping Challenge and junior show jumping competition, the ‘Strictly Showing’ competition and a beautiful breed society area. The show also hosts a dedicated shopping village featuring over 150 companies in the main hall and annexe offering everything for horse and rider.
