All at Madeira Bowls Club were simply delighted to learn of our gardening team’s success at the Exmouth in Bloom presentation evening attended by Joy Penberthy and secretary David Macaulay, writes Jean Healey.

There was gold won in the Sport and Leisure category, plus a special award for achievement in thriving through difficult conditions (snow in March and heat and dryness of summer), and finally overall winner for 2018 for all categories.

Well done, to all those involved, especially to Mavis Mears, who quietly enjoyed her hours ‘in the bushes’ whilst others bowled, and to Joy, who also won a ‘highly commended’ for her own garden.

Finally, we had a wonderful tea party on Sunday to say farewell to our great friend, and member of 20 years, May Dyson, who is moving to Surrey to be near to family. May has proved to be such a popular club member over many years that more than 80 wanted to share memories - we wish her a happy life making new friends and new memories.
