David Fidge put together a winning round as his game improved on the back nine, the highlight being a birdie three on the 17th as he walked away with the 37 points to win Division One of the September Stableford, writes Richard Jackman.

Despite a slightly erratic round, Phil Webb pulled together some good individual holes to safely secure second spot with 36 points, while Chris Brice’s 34 points took third.

In Division Two, Jon Cullimore won with the best score of the day, 38 points, as he made some good points on some of the more difficult holes to shore up a notable victory, while Karl Hancock started brilliantly but just fell away on the back nine, but still scored well enough to take second place on 35. Sean Whelan had a mixture of fortune but enough to take third place with 34. Club president John Owen held President’s Day for the ladies as they played a progressive bowmaker in teams of three. Despite early inclement weather, competition was keen as Judith Page, Sandra Barclay and Linda Richmand set about producing a winning score, while Caroline Baker, Amy Mudford and Karen Nicholson came second in what turned out to be a fitting day’s competition for Owen’s last day as host.

The Hardy B team made the tricky trip to Broadstone, playing in extremely wet conditions and came away with a very creditable half to end this year’s campaign.

In one of the pairs that won was captain Mark Colley, who was delighted with the team’s performance over the summer, and thanked those that took part helping to win promotion for the second year in succession, a good reflection on the team spirit.
