There was a symmetry to the results of the Lyme Regis men’s November medal as both captain and vice captain won their respective divisions with the same score of nett 69, writes Richard Jackman.

In Division One, vice captain Gareth Williams steadily accumulated his score with some excellent, solid golf, securing safe pars to achieve the top spot.

In second place, with nett 70, Keith Gibson had three good birdies, while in third place Geoff Moss had 18 consistent holes in his nett 72.

Club captain Lee Caddy was also in a strong groove as his nett 69 was achieved by mature sensible golf, to lead the division by three clear shots from Graham Pickard, 72, and Terry Peadon, 72, third on countback as both could not maintain the inertia of their well-grafted front nines.

The seniors’ November stableford saw some brilliant scores in Division One, none better than an in-form John Coley, with the best score of the day, 41 points, which included six, three-point holes.

Les Bounds and Peter Cogan finished second and third, both on an exceptional 40 points with Bounds having a 22 point back nine.

Division Two also saw some close scores as Bernie Styles, although starting modestly, got himself into gear to win with 37 points from second-placed Ken Lavery, who needed a close countback to push Geoff Clough into third place, both with 36 points. The ladies’ yellow ball competition saw two exceptional scores for first and second place, as both scored 106 points.

The winners were Cyndy Mudford, Kim Beauchamp and Amy Mudford while Jean Jolley, Kate Smith, and Di Harris had to settle for second on countback.

Third on 97 were Judith Williams, Judith Page and Susan Moore.
