Chardstock batsman Gary Larcombe carried his bat, scoring an unbeaten 130 as Chardstock recorded a resounding six wicket win at home to Clyst St George in a Tolchards Devon League D Division East meeting.

Larcombe had a good day all-round for his side as he earlier claimed three wickets for 33 runs as the visitors, who were put in, closed on 218-8.

The other wicket-takers for Chardstock were skipper Rob Hutching – he also had a hand in a run-out and held a catch – finished with figures of 2-25 from nine overs and Steve Allsopp returned figures of 1-25 from five overs.

Tom Warren helped Larcombe put on 49 for the first wicket in the run chase. When Warren was dismissed for nine, Larcombe was joined by skipper Hutchings and they took the total to within one run of three figures when Hutchings fell to a catch when on 20.

Steve Allsopp (34) added 88 with Larcombe before he became the third home wicket to fall and the only other Chardstock wicket to be lost was that of Stuart Parris, who failed to trouble the scorers. Nathan Copp (6) was the other not out batsman at the close, but the star of the show, without a doubt, was three wicket centurion Gary Larcombe.

Chardstock have won both early season games so far and sit second in the fledgling table, two points below Heathcoat 2nds, who have also won both and have a maximum points tally of 40. Chardstock have 38 and, on Saturday (May 19), they travel to a Barnstaple and Pilton side that has lost its first two games so far this term.
