Honiton hoping weather breaks to allow Sidmouth game to be played

15:27 24 January 2013

Honiton Town were without a game for the seventh Saturday in the last nine when snow put paid to their Fresha League game.

Town have played just one Division Two game in the last two months and they have completed just six of their 26 match campaign leaving them with plenty of mid-week dates to come between now and the end of April!

Town boss Kevin Blackwell says: “It is a worry now, a couple of weeks back I was saying the matter was still okay, but it could become a big issue if we lose many more Saturday match days to the weather. I am not too concerned about the Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday sequences we look like facing later in the season if the weather continues in its current form. We have a squad of 15 and I am very confident that there are three or four in the second string who could comfortably do a job for us, so playing numbers for a glut of games is not an issue. What adds to our fixture list is our continued involvement in the Cup, but that is something I want to continue!”

Town have three league games to play before they head for Newton Poppleford on February 16 for a Devon Senior Cup quarter final tie with Colaton Raleigh.

Next up is Saturday’s short trip to Sidmouth Town Reserves. Blackwell says: “It’s a derby game and that always adds extra spice. We will train as usual on the artificial surface at Colyton this week and be ready for action – weather permitting.”
