The Honiton Tuesday Mixed section played a Rye Foursomes with each pair deciding at the outset who would take the second shot on all the odd or even holes, both players having driven before choosing the best ball and continuing with alternate shots, writes Ann Desmoulins.

In view of the overnight frost, all temporary greens were in play and the competition was played over a shortened course of 14 holes.

Twenty-four players braved the cold weather, but the sun provided some relief from the wintry conditions.

Winning the competition, with 28 points, were Linda Northover and Roger Edwards, followed closely in second place by Penny Blackburn and Paul Ritchie with 27 points. Third place was decided on countback and went to Dot Grove and John Northover with 26 points.

Sadly, there was no action for the seniors last week with the course closed owing to bad weather.
