Nine Honiton Running Club members took themselves off to Bideford, North Devon for a chilly, windy, but dry race on the first Sunday of November, writes Judy Davey.

The race was the final one in a series of three (the half marathon and the 10k being the other two).

If runners got all three medals they interlink to make one. Some of the members were at Bideford for the third time this year and for others it was the only time.

With nearly 1,000 runners it was busy but, as normal, very well organised.

The route goes towards Barnstaple for five miles until getting to Yelland where runners join the flat Tarka Trail back to Bideford.

First back for Honiton was Vernon Gillard in a time of 1:13:53 with Carl Harrison finishing just four seconds later.

Next back was Tony Peek, who was really pleased with his time; starting right at the back and picking runners off along the route, he finished in 1:21:46 with Jennie Sleeman being the first HRC lady back in a time of 1:23:08.

Other HRC runners and their times were: Duncan Driver, 1:3:05; Claire Rouse, 1:20:14; Kathy Layzell, 1:30:16; Pip Vanham, 1:36:54; and Rachel Mandrupson in 1:46:57, who was pleased to finish after being injured for the last couple of months, but nothing was going to stop her getting her third bit of bling!

The first male to finish was Shaun Antell in 51:59 and first female was Hannah Taunton in 1:00:34. A great race with lovely views along the Tarka Trail and support on route. HRC will be back next year.
