Honiton land fine Foxlands success against Dawlish and nine ladies trial for Devon

Honiton ladies recorded a splendid win over Dawlish last week, writes Joan Mackintosh.

The fixture was in the Foxlands competition and Honiton won 93 shots to 57 to bank eight points.

The top rink in the home element of the match was the one of A Brown, D Hawkins, H Chambers, J Grant, who won 35-9 and the top rink away was the one of Y Williams, R Barwick, J Sherwood, C Binmore, who won 17-9.

The Honiton men lost their Over-60s meeting with Torbay, losing by three rinks to one with that lone success the rink of T Tooley, T Williams, M Dart and I Veitch.

However, in the men’s Interclub League, Honiton met South Hams, winning on three rinks and losing on one, taking the match honours 105-64.

The top rink honours went to the home one of P Berredell, B Singleton, K Vernon and S Coles, who won 31-14.

On Saturday, Honiton travelled to Taunton Vivary to play a mixed friendly triples match that turned out to be a 38-all draw.

The top Honiton rink was the one of D Roberts, M Granger, and M Bright with a score of 16 shots to 15.

The Sunday fixture saw Chard visit to contest a mixed friendly triples match that Honiton won 88-51 with the top home rink being the one of E Fielding, K Clarke and S Howell, who won 32-7.

Last Saturday, nine Honiton ladies played in the first county trial at Plymouth.

The nine ladies were: R Barwick, C Binmore, H Chambers, J Grant, D Hawkins, J Heard, R Hirons, S Hiscocks and Y Rayner. The second trial takes place on Saturday, October 27.
