Honiton bowlers in fine form

Honiton ladies made national Yetton Trophy progress when they defeated Kingsley in a first round fixture, writes Joan Mackintosh.

The ladies won on three rinks and drew on one, taking the match honours with a 77-61 shot score.

The top rink at home was the one of C Barradell, D Hawkins, Y Rayner and C Binmore, who won 27-10, and the top away rink was the one of Y Williams, A Brown, R Barwick, J Sherwood, who won 22-16.

Honiton will now play South Hams in the next round at the beginning of November.

The ladies were also in action in the first round of the Lane Trophy with a match against Exonia and again it produced a Honiton success with an 83-46 victory that saw Honiton also bank eight points.

The top home rink was the one of E Dommett, C Pidgeon and M Bright, who won 23-6, and the top away rink, winning 25-7, was the one of J Granger, J Broom and C Armitage.

Honiton men travelled to Exmouth to meet Madeira in a friendly fixture and they were successful to the tune of a 74-40 score line with the top rink being the one of R Rogers, J Smith and B Randell, who won 36-15.

In a home mixed fixture, Honiton defeated visiting Feniton 79-70.

The top home rink was the one of J Granger, D Roberts, B Mackintosh and T Williams (26-13).

There was also a mixed friendly played against Sidmouth and this proved to be a close contest, one that Honiton won by two shots at 73-71.

The top Honiton rink was the one of D Tooley, J Morfey, T Williams, M Bright (22-18).
