The second Sunday of March saw Honiton Bowling club present a cheque for £928.75 to Devon Freewheelers, writes Julie Grant.

Each year the club nominates a local worthy cause and raises money by various social events at the club, by members during their summer bowls tour and from sales of books. In 2017 Honiton Dementia Action Alliance is the chosen cause.

Last Saturday at ISCA saw two wonderful victories for Honiton ladies. Shirley Hiscocks and Rosemary Hirons defeated Torquay United in the Area final of the national pairs and by one shot, won themselves a place in the last 16 in England and will go to Melton Mowbray next week.

The Honiton four of Ann Brown, Di Hawkins, Heather Chambers and Julie Grant won the county title 26 shots to 13 against Mid Devon. All the players would like to thank the many supporters who came to watch.

At home earlier in the week Honiton men beat Devon Vice Presidents 78 shots to 67, top rink David Tooley, captain Tony Williams, Barry Randall and Jimmy Smith 26-4.

In their last county Foxlands game against Plymouth, Honiton ladies scored four points with an overall win of 83 shots to 68 and so stay in Division One.

All this thanks to the one winning rink of Rosemary Hirons, Sharon Kenny, Margaret Bright and Shirley Hiscocks, 36-6. Club finals results will appear next week.
