Exmouth Town will prepare for Saturday’s big cup tie with a Wednesday night training session followed by a player’s meal at the Southern Road club and sit together to watch the Real Madrid versus Manchester United Champions League clash.

Town boss Richard Pears said: “The club are being brilliant with us. They put on food after training and we generally all sit together which we will do on Wednesday and take in the Champions League game. It is occasions like this that the bonding is done off the pitch and things like that take you a long way into and through matches on a Saturday afternoon.”

He continued: “We have a cracking squad now with genuine competition for every single starting berth in the team and I would have it no other way. What that means is that when the players train they know they have to put a shift in for we now have a squad in which every one of the players is very capable of starting – things are very healthy at Southern Road right now. Mind you, it’s not a question of magic, it would be a footballing crime if the players were not enjoying what we have right now given the success that we are enjoying. That said we need to be mindful that it could all come crashing down if we were to take our eye off the ball.”

As to Saturday’s game with Exeter Civil Service for a place in the last four of the Graddon Vending Devon Premier Cup, Pears says: “I’ll remind the lads of how they delivered against Galmpton and simply ask for more of the same. If I need to throw in a sobering thought then I’ll take them back to how flat we all felt when we lost the FA Vase tie to a Sherborne Town side we most certainly did not deserve to lose to back in the autumn and if we want to avoid that sort of feeling again then getting the job done out way is going to be the key against Exeter Civil Service.”
