The final Saturday of January produced wins for both Exmouth Town and Budleigh Salterton.

Table topping Town were 7-1 winners over Crediton United at Southern Road. That victory extends the unbeaten league run to 13 matches this term with the overall season’s stats being of 23 matches played they have won 20, drawn just two (both in the league) and lost once – that a single goal defeat to Toolstation Western league side Sherborne Town in the FA Vase!

The goal count for Richard Pears’ men is 73 in their 23 outings whilst they have conceded just 21 and kept no fewer than ten clean sheets, small wonder the that Town’s regular match reporter John Dibsdall says: “This is the finest squad I have seen pout together at our club for a considerable time. We are really enjoying what we are watching this term.”

It was a brace each from Lloyd Gardner and Dan Boere plus single strikes from Alex Greening, Andrew Thompson and Ben Shepherd that saw Town move five points clear at the top of the SWP League Eastern Division table.

Sitting second are Budleigh Salterton, though the Greenway Lane men have played four more games than their rivals.

The Robins were 2-1 winners Axminster Town where there was no sign of the trouble that flared its ugly head when the teams met seven days before. Goals from Mike Hancock and George Pannell plus an 88th minute penalty save from Adrian Pullin, saw Budleigh to victory.

Make sure of your copy of the next Exmouth or Budleigh Journal – out on Thursday, January 31 to read the match reports and post match comment from both Town and Budleigh camps.
