Exmouth Town boss Peter Buckingham was at Chard Town on Saturday to run the rule over his side’s forthcoming FA Cup tie opposition as it was Shaftesbury who visited the Somerset club for a pre-season friendly.

Buckingham was impressed with what he saw and one player, in particular, stood out.

The Town boss said: “They [Shaftesbury] had a lad called Mali Benjamin who was a very tidy player. “He seems to have the lot; with bags of pace and can clearly play on either flank – something he did in this game spending one half as a right sided player and the other half on the left.

“He is going to need some attention, that’s for sure!”

Buckingham took in the whole game, seeing Shaftesbury secure a 2-1 victory with a late winner.

He added: “Having run the rule over them I feel we have a forthcoming cup tie that we can win, but, there’s little doubt they will offer us a challenge and, let’s face it, I might not have seen their full side – they may have a cluster of lads still on the beach – but I’ll be keeping an eye on the rest of their warm-up games to make sure we have the best of homework all done and dusted before our trip there early next month.”

Town are back in action this Friday when they entertain St Martins at Southern Road (7.45pm).
