The fundraising initiative to help a group of Exmouth youngsters in their bid to get to the kite surfing Olympic qualifiers next year has got off to a great start.

A terrific sum of £2,500 was raised in a blitz of rum punch, lamb tagine and electric vibe that went down The Beach House in Exmouth.

Over 100 people took the opportunity to eat, drink and dance - in doing so they helped to raise funds for the young kite surfers to travel to those Olympic qualifiers.

Guy Bridge and Rachael Hooper were the driving forces behind ticket sales that meant that The Mystery Box, Silent Auction and ‘Guess the kiter’ raised £1,600, while another £900 was raised from ticket sales on the night.

The food and cake effort was a team combination of Guy, Rachael and Katie Hooper together with Adam Hooper while the bar was definitely an Olly Bridge show and Eric Bridge on the Oven Fired Pitza.

Huge thanks are due from all concerned for the support from: Fat Face, Exe Kiteboarders, Edge Watersports, Rockfish Exmouth, Knowle Garage, The Kite Mag, Bridge Tom North Kites UK, Thomas Beaton, Pebblebed Vineyards, Darts Farm, Otterton Mill, The Royal York and Faulkner Hotel, Sidmouth, Paul Hook, Into the Blue.

The £2,500 is one third of the way to the required sum for the youngsters to get to those Olympic qualifiers. To find out more about the group, please visit www.gofundme.com/youth-olympic-kitesurf-squad
