Exmouth badminton star Ben Lane was named this week as one of 10 badminton players selected to go to the Commonwealth Games in six weeks’ time.

Ben, who will be 21 in July of this year, will make his Games debut for the country on the Gold Coast in Australia.

After a very successful year in Asia and Europe, Ben will compete in his first Commonwealth Games 24 years after his mum won Commonwealth gold in Canada.

The badminton squad includes Olympic medallists Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis, and Gabby and Chris Adcock, the reigning Commonwealth champions.

This year has seen Ben and partner Jess Pugh win their first Senior National title, reach a semi-final of a Grand Prix tournament and win the Italian Open in December.

They are now ranked 30 in the world and before heading off to Australia have a busy schedule ahead of them.

This week they are in Russia competing in the Team Europeans, then they head straight to Switzerland and Germany before playing the All England in March.
