In what was an eventful fixture at Vicarage Road, East Budleigh and visiting Dawlish emerged with a share of the spoils after scoring six goals between them, writes Mark Auton.

On what was another superb surface prepared by groundsman Richard Slade, it was the visitors who found it to their liking and they took a first-minute lead!

Budleigh’s response came just three minutes later with George Harris providing the assist for a header by Hugo Demetre.

Dawlish were having a lot of the ball, but not really threatening the Budleigh goal and it was the Jays who were creating the chances.

Matt Jones flicked on a ball from Ross Bright, which saw Jacob Rice curl a shot just wide and it was Rice who was also denied again, picking up the rebound from a Liam West shot.

Six minutes into the second period Budleigh went ahead; Brights’ corner was met by Steve Hitchcock, West got a touch, and Rice applied the final touch. Nine minutes later Dawlish equalised from a corner, although keeper Dean Rawlings seemed to be fouled as the ball came in.

The momentum then swung towards the away side and they took a 3-2 lead midway through the half.

However, Budleigh refused to lie down. West had a couple of efforts before Jones headed against the post when set up by Harris.

With five minutes remaining it was Harris who again centered for captain Dan Reynolds, who produced an exquisite flicked finish. Hitchcock headed wide late on to bring a hectic, entertaining match to an end.

Man of the Match went to Demetre for a Budleigh side who visit Bow this Saturday.
