East Budleigh Reserves made it eight wins from eight Macron League Division Seven starts with a 10-1 victory at Kenn Valley United, in a thrilling contest that had a bit of everything in it, writes Mark Auton.

Despite starting well, it was Budleigh keeper Drew Shorrock that made a great save early on and that gave the Jays the impetus to take control. Ben Wilks was in the right place to open his and Budleigh’s account in the 10th minute.

A couple of minutes later Wilks had his second, before Budleigh had the game in the bag by half-time; Matt Tidmarsh headed number three and it was Craig Leaman who fired home the fourth.

The hosts tried their best to break Budleigh down, but the Jays were oozing confidence and it was man of the match Wilks who completed his hat-trick.

Things got worse for the home side, who were reduced to nine men with a double sending off, and Budleigh were not going to let their opponents off the hook.

Tiddmarsh scored his second and Budleigh’s sixth, before Josh Sale broke from midfield and cleverly lobbed the keeper from just inside the box.

Jack Hockings added a goal his efforts deserved and it was Callum Wade who got nine and ten, his first goals for the club.

The drama continued with Kenn being awarded two late penalties, one of which was superbly saved by Shorrock and the other was converted to give the Exeter side a mere consolation.

On Saturday (October 20) Budleigh will look for more of the same at Okehampton.
