It may not be everyone’s idea of a siblings’ day out but, having myself enjoyed the pleasure of a siblings race, I can understand the attraction, writes Cathy Newman.

In my case four, forty-something siblings completed a 10k race.

However, the Dupain trio of Hannah, Chris and Emma went considerably further, when all of them completed the Chester marathon on Sunday.

This talented sporting family has had success in events from football to hockey to triathlon as well as in running, but even so this achievement must rank highly among their sporting triumphs.

Starting and finishing on Chester horse racing ground, the course follows a predominantly flat, rural route and manages to offer huge spectator support.

Hannah led the family home with a personal best of 3:10:42; she was 30th female finisher and 374th overall from 2820 finishers. Brother Chris also ran a personal best with 3:45:45 and younger sister Emma wasn’t far behind in 3:52:52.

All of them finished in the top half of the field. Exmouth Harriers was also represented in the Chicago Marathon (won by Britain’s Mo Farah in a British and European record). Kelly Thomas was just outside her best with 3:44:07.
