Withy went into the contest with only 16 players and four of them were carrying injuries by full-time! Indeed, such was the injury count that, in the closing stages both sides were playing with 12 players in their ranks!

Withy struck the first blow in terms of the scoring with Ben Dawson getting away down the wing before cutting inside to score close to the posts and Jason Farrant slotted the extras.

Tavistock hit back with a period of sustained pressure – despite some terrific defensive work from Withy who twice powered the hosts back from the try line!

Tavistock then stepped up a gear, but were denied a second try by a simply stunning try-saving tackler by Aaron Lee. However, the pressure told and Tavvy scored again to take a 10-7 lead into the break.

Early in the second half Jake Lewis, Cameron Bennett and Josh Saunders were all stopped after making significant distance in to the opposition half and as pressure was applied Tavvy conceded a penalty deep in their territory.

The ever-alert Jo Blyth took it quickly to set up a try for Dawson and that was followed by a third Dawson try, this one converted by Farrant and the Withy lead was extended to 19-10.

Tavistock replied with a converted try, but Withy were not to be denied and it was that lad Dawson who, for the fourth time in the contest, crossed the Tavistock whitewash to seal his side a 24-17 success.
