Ten trainers and two assistants have agreed to roll back the years to ride in the inaugural Anthony Knott Charity Race that takes place at Wincanton Racecourse on Thursday, December 6: Racing Welfare Raceday.

The trainers have agreed to become jockeys in the first race of the day, run at midday, over one mile two furlongs, in which the field includes two Grand National winning jockeys and the assistant to last season’s Grand National-winning trainer.

Brendan Powell and Jimmy Frost will be joined by Paul Nicholls’ number two Dan Skelton, Tim Vaughan, Ralph Beckett, Jamie Snowden, Richard Woollacott, Johnson White, Anthony Honeyball, Bill Turner, Neil Mulholland and Knott’s own trainer Keiran Burke.

Exuberant racehorse owner and race sponsor - Anthony Knott - has recorded a special You Tube video to promote the day www.wincantoncharityauction.co.uk/raceday-news providing mini-appraisal of the daring dozen.

Brendan Powell, who Knott refers to as the Silver Fox, says: “I’m looking forward to it and supporting Racing Welfare which is a great charity, but I need to get myself fit. I haven’t sat on a horse since the Grand National at Aintree. I rode in the charity race and came last! I blew up before the horse so I’ll see if I can get a horse good enough to get me to the winning post first this time.”

Racing Welfare is a Jockey Club Racecourses charity which provides help for those in need who are working or have worked in the racing industry as well as their families.

Wincanton’s chairman Guy Henderson adds: “Wincanton is delighted to support this important charity. This day will do a lot to raise the charity’s profile, to raise much needed funds; as well as being an enjoyable day with great racing.”

All 12 riders can be purchased for the day via www.wincantoncharityauction.co.uk and the 12 winning bids will receive two owners and trainers entrance badges with the highest bidder of the winning trainer taking 40 per cent of the total raised in the jockey auction.

The gates open at 11am with the charity race coming under starters’ orders at midday before six competitive races get under way.

Advanced tickets are available from £12 and hospitality packages from £45. The complimentary bus service will meet the train coming into Templecombe at 11.43am (Exeter St Davids). The restaurant is available from £45 per person which includes premier admission, a set three course meal and a table for the day. Pre-book tickets by calling the hotline on 0844 579 3014 or visit: www.wincantonracecourse.co.uk.
