THE 148s took centre stage at the Eggesford point to point, racing over 1m2f on good to soft ground.

The six runners all had chances to win on form and, in the end, out and out stayer Petite Pois (Pippa Glanville) came through to beat Vadlawalkover (Hannah Welch), the two friends battling hard over the last furlong.

The race wasn’t without incident though as favourite Tarka (Bryony Frost) hit a marker on the top bend and fired Frost out of the saddle, denying racegoers the blanket finish they had been waiting for. Frost, who turned 16 this week, is now looking to ride her last pony race at Flete on Saturday at the Dartmoor point to point and have her first point to point ride later the same day. An interesting finish had been in prospect as Vadlawalkover had beaten Tarka over a stayers track at Great Trethew last time out, and Petite Pois had won for Glanville at Seavington the previous weekend.

A hot pace had been set by Lesaigles Delbosco (Barnaby Treneer), followed by Shes So Cool, but it proved just too fast and they were reined in by the far bend. Tarka had remained back in mid division with Petite Pois on her tail, the pair moving up to the front just before the final bend. Flareon (Heidi Lewis) has won on the track before and stayed on well in the closing stages to take third with Shes So Cool (Chester Williams) fourth

The 138s also had a long distance race, which saw Bejowans Bouquet (Tina Smith) complete a hat-trick of wins but she was pushed all the way to the line by previous course winner Ravara Super Ted (Anna Wotton). She held on by two lengths and Ravara Super Ted will improve as the ground gets firmer so some close races will be in prospect. Bronze Lawrance who has been sportingly available for several riders this season was this time partnered by Michael Treneer who had a great run in third. He was hotly pursued by his brother, Barnaby, on My Golden Dream (Barnaby Treneer) in fourth. Jake Bament had a good run on Ginger Wizard in fith and Tyler Heard made a great race riding debut on Ninfield Master Mink in sixth and we look forward to seeing him out again.

Results: 138: 1, Bejowans Bouquet, Tina Smith; 2, Ravara Super Ted, Anna Wotton; 3, Bronze Lawrance, Michael Treneer; 4, My Golden Dream, Barnaby Treneer. Nine ran, 2l, 6l, 2.13.

148: 1, Petite Pois, Pippa Glanville; 2, Vadlawalkover, Hannah Welch; 3, Flareon, Heidi Lewis; 4, Shes So Cool, Chester Williams. Six ran, 2l, 20l, 2.31.

The next point to point pony races are at the Dartmoor point to point at Flete on Saturday, April 23, 1pm and 1.20pm.
