Axminster ladies win well at Budleigh.

Axminster ladies enjoyed an excellent win in their friendly match at Budleigh, writes David Harris.

The ladies were 45-34 winners and there was a fine rink success for Alison Glyde, Ann Burn, Ann Clayton, and Margaret Crompton, who won 31-10.

There also been a number of recent friendly matches for the Axminster bowlers. A visit to Bridport resulted in an 82-65 success with wins on three of the four rinks - Sue Bond, Gill Campbell, David Harris, and Don Meylan (26-15), Philippa White, Mike Mellor, Ann Burn, and Nigel Bond (22-12) , and Morrison Brown, Alan Foster, Alfie Day, and Margaret Crompton (21-19).

Next up a trip to Taunton Deane ended in a heavy defeat at 98 shots to 52. There were no Axminster winner, but the rink of Philippa White, Mike Mellor, ‘Budgie’ Hallowes, and Alfie Day were unlucky to lose by just one shot at 18-17!

Severalls pitched up for a friendly, and were despatched with a 63-38 defeat in a meeting that saw success for all the home rinks: Reg Crouch, Margaret Brown, Gill Campbell, and Les Clark (23-9), Marion Harris, ‘Budgie’ Hallowes, and Brian Clark ( one player short) 23-14, and Morrison Brown, Ann Burn, David Harris, and Margaret Crompton (17-15).

Next up a trip into Exeter where Axminster bowlers were all in fine form as the team won 66-44 with wins on all rinks - Philippa White, David Harris, John Hill, and Ann Clayton (27-17), John Packham, Ann Burn, Sue Bond, and Nigel Bond (20-16) and Mavis Swallow, Gerald Knott, George Mabon, and guest player ‘Moussa’ (19-11).
