Axminster Gymnastics Club has a busy summer ahead, kicking off with a bingo fundraiser,held at Axminster Guildhall and organised by Emma Seogalutze of Macsorsons Fish Shop, which made an amazing £1,056.00 for club funds. Many other businesses donated produce for hampers, including Halff Shop, Complete Meats, Colyton Butchers, Washingpool farm shop and Tesco.

Recently the cub sent gymnasts and coaches to Ferndown for a floor and vault competition, where great success was had with many rosettes, podium places and two youngsters winning gold and first position overall in their categories.

Emma Prior from the club says: “We really want to give opportunities to as many children as possible and some that competed today train just one hour a week in our recreational gymnastics classes.”

Looking further ahead, the club is excited about the prospects of having display slots at both Axe Vale Show and Axminster’s Big Dinner and the club’s new display group will perform at Axe Vale Show.

The display group began sessions in April of this year as a new class at Axminster Gymnastics and they train together once a week.

For the Big Dinner event, being held on Friday June 29, there will be a smaller group showing a selection of skills on multi apparatus - an example of what is taught in the club’s artistic squad and recreational classes.

For such events, the club has been presented with a banner made by R and H Signs that is proving to be a very useful advertising aid for the club.

To complete what is going to be a busy summer period, the club will also be at the Devon Levels competition on Sunday, July 15, when four of the club’s gymnasts will compete on all apparatus against many big clubs.

Emma says: “This will be our first time into this type of arena, but we are excited to be involved.”

The club is also looking forward to running its first ‘Open Family Fun Day’ which is being held at All Saints Primary School on Sunday, July 8, running from 11am to 3pm. The club is hoping lots of folk will get along to enjoy gymnastics performances, a bouncy castle, stalls and a barbecue.

The final word then is with Emma, who says: “The club is delighted to have over 200 members and runs sessions six days of the week – an amazing provision for local young people. We hope to grow and continue to provide gymnastics for all!”
