Axminster suffered a six wicket defeat on their visit to Topsham St James for their latest Tolchards League D Division East outing.

After losing the toss, the Axe men were put in on a wicket that, after midweek rain, was always going to favour the bowlers who got first use of the new ball.

Matthew Pile opened the innings and went on to top score with 25. However, the only other score to reach double figures was the 24 extras!

In all, there were four ducks in the Axminster card, and the ‘best of the rest’ with the bat were scores of five from Neil Fuzzard and Paul Miller as Axminster were bundled out for 70 in just under 32 overs.

As had been expected, batting second on a drying wicket was always going to be much easier and so it proved as Topsham St James sailed to a six wicket success, getting home in just short of 17 overs.

Matthew Pile claimed 2-17 from five overs to complete a fine all-round effort for the Axemen.
