A hearty bunch of over 30 Axe Cliff seniors enjoyed calm, but breezy conditions for the Monthly Medal combining the Least Number of Putts trophy, writes Dave Bruce.

The combination helped everybody to concentrate more on their important putting part of the game resulting in some fine scores.

The Medal was won by Richard Orsman with a low nett 65 from newish member Paul Hilder with nett 68 and ever-reliable Adrian Bishop took third place with a nett 69.

None of these, surprisingly, featured in the putting trophy, which was won by Chris Walker,

on countback from Leighton Morgan with a staggering 28 putts each being an average of 1.55 putts per hole!

The competition was resurrected after it had been retained by John Pugh for eight years with the rules carefully rewritten by Brian Thompson, who also organised the cards to keep easy count of both medal and putts score bearing in mind that seniors can only concentrate on one thing at a time.
