With the air as crisp as a new £10 note and the River Teign Valley trees in glowing full autumn raiment, what better reason could there be to run the Drogo 10?, writes Dave Mutter.
Thanks to organiser Alan Morbey and charabanc driver Matt Hewer, a posse of AVRs made the trip to Castle Drogo on Dartmoor.
AVR were richly rewarded with the men’s team: James Green 4th, 1:05:02; Matt Clist, fifth, 1:05:15; Matt Hewer, 16th, 1:11:52 winning the male team award and Karen Eyre 47th, first F45, 1:21:36; Eleanor Wood, 86th, first 1st F60, 1:24:12; Sue Hayes, 128th, 1:28:00; winning the ladies’ team prize plus Graham Newton, 74th, 1:23:09 was the first M65.
Many other AVRs put up sterling performances with Jack Smith, 96th, 1:24:53; Simon Davey, 97th, 1:25:04; Alan Morbey, 139th, 1:29:11; Steve Haines, 161st, 1:31:37; Margaret Pearce, 171st, 1:32:36; Roger Bramley, 183rd, 1:34:27; Kevin Feeney, 191st, 1:35:42; Steven Lewis, 219th, 1:38:43; John Larcombe, 229th, 1:40:32; Richard Jackson, 236th, 1:41:23; Chris Hill, 245th, 1:44:42; Henry Smith, 275th, 1:47:24; Gillian Peach, 314th, 1:51:59; Yvette Hill, 317th, 1:52:05; Susie Pitt, 332nd, 1:55:21 and Dave Mutter, 352nd, 1:59:24.
It was a perfect day out with the runner camaraderie, cheering marshals and super organisation making everyone forget the doom and gloom and put a smile of unbridled happiness on competitors’ faces.
Thanks to SWRR for a brilliant run once again.
