The best AVR-supported 10k race this week was the Ottery 10k, so superbly organised by Honiton RC, writes Dave Mutter.

The race was won by Andrew Chamber of Bristol in 33:15, and the first AVR home was Matt Hewer, 11th in 38:46.

Eleanor Wood was the first AVR lady home, 56th and 1st F55 in 45.38. Other AVR results were: James Glenne, 19th, 40:44; Antony Chadwick, 20th, 40:54; Stephen Grigg, 46th, 44:24; Carol Austin, 81st, 48:49; Caroline French, 115th, 52:05; Andy Sayers, 134th, 53:38; Jon Eyre, 195th, 57:32 (extremely pleased to be sub 60!); Carolyn Nation and Vicky Austin, joint 261st, 1:08:03; Denise Burgess, 280th, 1:15:46 and Sam Summers (who succeeded in crossing the finishing line in the right direction!), 284th, 1:18:17.

● Alan Morbey travelled to Stourhead House in Wiltshire for the Immortal 10k race.

Starting in the grounds of the estate with a very fast downhill start, the route then heads out through Stourton village and onto quiet undulating country lanes and forest tracks before returning to the beautiful estate grounds for a steep uphill finish in front of Stourhead House.

The race was won by Nathan Fisher in 34:02, and Alan finished 42nd in 53:04, second in age category. There were 222 finishers in this very well-organised and enjoyable race. Many thanks to Immortal Sports for hosting this event. In other AVR news, Ragnhild Richards ran the Bristol 10k in 49:42 and was 6th in her age group (FV55-59). Meanwhile, AVR’s John Blackledge won the latest Seaton Parkrun in 18:48 with Tom Dunn finishing second in 19:11 and Finlay Downes was third in 20:02. AVR’s Kerry Board was the first lady home, 13th overall in a time of 22:40.

● AVR member Sarah Glynn completed her first half marathon when she took part in the Forest of Dean Marathon, writes Dave Mutter.

She completed the race in a time of 2:08 – at least 10 mins better than she expected! Conditions saw weather of 20 degrees together with a light breeze – perfect! In the glorious private setting of the Flete Estate, Mothecombe on the River Erme estuary, three AVRs completed the ‘Long Half Marathon’ of 16 miles.

Richard Jackson was first home, 39th in 2:38:23, Roger Bramley was 51st, 2:45:11, and Georgia Dommett – who actually entered the much shorter 14k race, but missed the split so ran 16 miles instead – did well to finish 53rd in a time of 2:45:44.
