Five AVRs made the journey to north Wales for the 36th Snowdonia Marathon Eryri, writes Dave Mutter.

With breath-taking scenery from start to finish the circuitous course snakes around a snow-capped Snowden and entails close to 3,000 feet of climbing and this year with a wind chill making it just two degrees, it certainly is not a course for the faint-hearted!

Margaret Pearce set a blistering pace and despite suffering cramp was the first AVR home in a time of 4:07:19, finishing 648th overall.

Also suffering from cramp in the chilly conditions, Chris Hill and Alan Morbey struggled through the latter stages of the race together, finishing 4:32:55, 1107th and 4:34:26, 1136th respectively. Angela Kerr was next home 4:58:51, 1564th, whilst husband Martin (Kerr) finished in 6:09:50, 1483rd.

There were 2205 finishers and 39 DNF. Many thanks, to Jayne Lloyd and Marathon Eryri Cyf for organising such a spectacular race through the heart of Snowdonia.

● Another AVR member, Lee Moran, was in action closer to home, taking on the Dartmoor Vale Half, finishing 18th overall, second M40, with his time being 1:35:39, which represents a very good performance.
