Look out your Santa hats, grab some tinsel and get yourselves down to Otterton for the Reindeer Run.

Despite the torrential rain and inclement weather of late, the village of Otterton having being cut off on two separate occasions in the last week and parts of the lower Otter Valley still lying under several feet of flood water, the Reindeer Run is on this Saturday, December 1!

There is a contingency 10 km Reindeer run route and a slightly shortened Fun Run due to the closure of the footpath adjacent to the River Otter. It is hoped with the colder, drier weather this week that the ground will finally have a moment to dry out at last; ground conditions presently are very runnable indeed however with colder, frostier weather forecast this may lead to slippery conditions under foot so additional care will need to be taken through gateways and muddy puddles on race day.

This year’s Reindeer Run will be started by a very special Olympic torch bearer known throughout hashing circles and local multi-terrain races.

Despite Christmas being only a handful of shopping days away, why not resist the urge to blow all your hard earned cash on a retail therapy excursion, come and join fellow runners for the new Reindeer route which promises additional panoramic views of the Jurassic Coast and Otter Valley; we sincerely hope that participants will be suitably wowed by the new route.

The finish area remains the same, the only difference being that you may notice the odd sandbar or two!

On completion of your run on the village green you will be serenaded into the finish area with ambient Christmas saxophone tunes provided by father and son duo, Dave and Isaac.

On catching your breath you will be issued with your souvenir Reindeer Run mug. Make your way to the comforts of Otterton Village Hall and you will be greeted with the hubbub of excited voices and festive bods of all shapes and sizes. Fran Mills and her hard working team of helpers will recharge your batteries with a complementary mug full of mulled wine, a hot, tasty mince pie generously provided by Haymans Butchers of Sidmouth and a bacon butty for a small fee, all helping to raise funds towards OCESA (Otterton Church of England School Association).

The 3.2 km fun run is just £3 per person, taking a shorter route than usual. All participating children are given a complementary set of reindeer antlers at the finish on the Green.

Otterton C of E School, Jim and Jeanette Pyne (hash names Big Jim and Mrs Baldrick) would like to thank all the sponsors for their generous help and support without which this amazing event wouldn’t be able to take place
