Fire crews donned dry suits and used a boat to rescue the woman and her friend on the bank.

A WOMAN was rescued from flood water this morning (Wed) after her car became stuck at New Bridge in Tawstock.

A crew from Barnstaple arrived at the scene at 9.50am and donned watertight suits to rescue the woman.

Barnstaple fire station’s crew manager Richard Bulled said the crews wheeled the special rescue boat into the water to reach the woman.

“She had called a friend who was stood on the bank, and we walked the boat out to transfer her and the gentleman to safety,” said Mr Bulled.

“The water was probably about 18 inches deep.

“The River Taw had broken its banks and was flowing onto the road and as she tried to drive through it her engine had conked out.

“After that we secured the car to ensure it wouldn’t be swept down river.”

The woman was unharmed during the incident.
