Villagers need to raise £260,000 to re-open the long-closed King’s Arms

Villagers at Stockland have launched a fundraising campaign to open a community pub.

They need £260,000 to buy the long-closed King’s Arms and carry out repairs.

Stockland Community Pub Limited (SCPL) launched its bid to raise the cash at a packed meeting in the village hall.

Chairman Peter Maitland outlined the offer agreed with the current owners to purchase the King’s Arms, which closed in 2013.

He said the plan was to operate it as a community pub, owned by shareholders from Stockland and neighbouring villages as well as

friends of the village from further afield.

The sale of shares would fund both the purchase and the necessary repair work to the building. Shares are available from as little as £100 and every shareholder will have a say on the ongoing management of SCPL, and the restoration of the King’s Arms to its former glory as a fully operational pub/restaurant and bed-and-breakfast.

Detailed strategy documents are included in information packs which are now available on-line at www.scpl.org.uk
