A 17 week old puppy which went missing on Woodbury Common has been found, after an unprecedented community response.

Jackson, a Brown Doberman, jumped out of his collar and ran away from his owners last Sunday, having been spooked by other dogs.

His owners turned to Facebook to try and find him, and to their amazement saw nearly 2,000 people sign up to their group, and scores of searchers taking to the Common to find him.

And the search had a happy ending on Tuesday evening, when Jackson was found safe and well near where he had disappeared.

Jackson’s owner Louise Cooke said: “We’re just so grateful for everybody’s help and support. It’s been a real rollercoaster – we haven’t slept for three nights but we’re over the moon now.

“To get just under 2,000 people looking in 48 hours was amazing. Dog walkers in Exmouth were going out at night – people who had nothing to gain and didn’t want any thanks for it.

“We feel incredibly lucky and really humbled by the community support.”

Now Jackson has been found, Louise says she hopes to turn the Facebook group into a general page to help anybody who has lost a dog locally.
