Port Talbot Cymric Choir visits Seaton

Some 200 people enjoy an evening of fine Welsh song at The Gateway

Seaton and District Lions Club’s annual Welsh choir concert made a welcome return to The Gateway on Saturday.

This year a 200 strong audience enjoyed music from the Port Talbot Cymric Male Choir.

Thirty five choir members performed on the stage, along with their musical director Mathew Lewis, accompanist Elisabeth Scourfield Jones and soloist Di Botcher.

The evening’s performance included Deus Salutis, Cwm Rhondda, When The Saints Go Marching In, She and Nessun Dorma. As well as being a very witty compere, Di Botcher gave an impressive rendition of Broadway Baby.

The Lions’ compere Kevin Frost thanked the choir, MD, accompanist and soloist before requesting they finish with ‘God Save the Queen’ followed by a rousing rendition of the Welsh National Anthem, Hen Wald Fy Nhadau.

It was left to Lions’ president, Clive Millman to present a Lion’s bannerette to the choir’s chairman, Steve Williams, who in turn gave him a commemorative plaque.
