Up to 150 new homes and businesses form Chivenor Cross blueprint.

MAJOR plans have been submitted for the creation of a new neighbourhood on the outskirts of Wrafton.

The outline application for new homes and businesses at Chivenor Cross seeks permission for 150 new homes; 8.2 hectares of employment land; a community ‘hub’ building; open green spaces; a park and ride facility; bus stops; and associated infrastructure.

Developers say the proposals for the land adjacent to RMB Chivenor and the A361 could create up to 900 jobs plus additional employment during the construction phases.

The outline application has been submitted to North Devon Council by LDA Design on behalf of St Francis Group Ltd.

A design and access statement submitted with the plans said access would be provided via a new roundabout with the A361, and the development would maintain separation to ‘sensitive’ MoD facilities.

It said the site offers a real opportunity to create a high quality employment-led development to attract new investors and businesses.

“The site can function alongside Perrigo, RMB Chivenor and adjoining facilities and residential areas to form a distinctive new development that combines employment space with housing and community space to form a sustainable new Chivenor neighbourhood.

“Chivenor Cross is immediately deliverable and is capable of providing a new distinctive high quality employment offer, in connection with adjoining sites, for prospective employers looking to invest in North Devon.

“It is also able to considerably enhance the sustainability of the residential areas in the vicinity of the site, by creating a more substantial community with supporting facilities and jobs.”

In November, the Gazette reported how local people were given a preview of the emerging plans at a consultation event at Wrafton Royal British Legion Hall.

The application will now undergo a period of public consultation that ends on March 7.

  • The article states that there will be provision for a new roundabout but nothing about any road upgrading to take the traffic this development will inevitably create.
