Planning officers support Cyprus Road care home

12:08 26 February 2013

Renewed plans to build a care home in the Avenues have been supported by district planning officers.

The scheme, for 14 Cyprus Road, is for a 40-bed care home, and was initially approved by East Devon District Council in 2010.

The site’s planning situation is complicated, as a scheme by the same applicant to build apartments there was rejected by councillors last year, and is now subject to appeal.

However, with permission for the care home expiring, an application for renewal has been submitted.

Planning officers say this should be granted, as there have been no significant changes in planning policy or the care home’s design since it was approved in 2010.

However, Exmouth Town Council is opposing the plan – as it did in 2010 – adding to its previous concerns the effect the home would have on the town’s sewers, in light of last year’s flooding.

A final decision on the scheme will be made by members of EDDC’s development management committee on Tuesday at the Knowle in Sidmouth at 2pm.
