A ‘national company’ is in talks to take over the former B&Q site at Liverton Business Park, its owners have revealed.
Clinton Devon Estates has confirmed the talks as it announces building work on the latest expansion to the site, off Salterton Road, which will see six new units available in the summer. The announcement also follows the recent news that Home Bargains is planning to move into the park’s former Mooreways store in April.
Clinton Devon Estates’ head of property and land Leigh Rix said: “This announcement is good news for the people of Exmouth and East Devon as it adds a new dimension to the area’s retail and employment mix. Home Bargains is a well-established, growing company which is known to generate increased footfall in retail and business parks so it’s also good news for all the existing tenants at Liverton.
“We are also negotiating with another national company which is interested in taking the store vacated by B&Q after they sadly decided to close around 60 outlets across the country last year.
“In recent years we have expanded Liverton Business Park so it is now also home to Howdens and Bradfords, and we are also in the process of developing more units to alleviate the shortage of serviced employment space in Exmouth. We will soon be starting to build the new Harpford Units which will offer the opportunity for local companies to expand or relocate to this purpose-built business park.
“In addition to being well connected to the road network and just 30 minutes from the centre of Exeter, Liverton Business Park has excellent cycle and footpath links to its neighbouring communities.”
Full planning permission was granted for the six new units in September, with four of 116 square metres each and two of 232 square metres each, for business, industrial, and storage and distribution use.
Mr Rix added: “With construction work due to get under way, new tenants could help to influence the design and layout of their chosen site, subject to planning regulations, if they get in touch with us soon.
“We will start work on the new Harpford Units this spring and expect them to be ready for their new occupiers in the summer.”
