THE musicians of Ilfracombe turned out on Saturday in a show of musical force to promote the forthcoming benefit concert and rock fest Con-Tribute.

The event on Saturday, March 16 will take place at several venues in the town on behalf of fellow musician Connor Mackay after thieves took almost everything he owns.

A swift Facebook campaign soon saw artists and venues lining up to take part in the festival and to raise money to help Connor replace the stolen items.

The day long music feast begins at 12noon and already has more than 20 performers signed up. They will begin at harbour pubs and work their way up to the High Street, with live music at regular intervals to allow the audience to follow the action.

It is being sponsored by Ilfracombe-based marketing company The Olden Group in association with Taylors Solicitors and Ilfracombe Round Table. Organisers also hope to promote an anti-theft message and collect money for a chosen charity as well.

In a double burglary at his Bicclescombe Park home, thieves took almost all of Connor’s valuable possessions, including his television, Playstation, amplifier and a movie collection of more than 600 DVDs, plus a gold watch given to him by his mother.

Registered blind and with only 25 per cent of sight, the 39-year-old artist and musician also saw his laptop stolen while on the bus hoem from Petroc, where he is studying a degree in fine art.

This all took place in the space of one week.

He regularly performs at venues such as The Chill Bar in Ilfracombe and after 14 years in the town is well known and liked.

Musicians Kelly Render, Pete Bradshaw, Paul Gates and their friends have been busy organising the event.

Said Connor: “I am absolutely stunned by the response - I have been bowled over by the support from my musician friends who have so quickly made this all happen.”
