Grants for village schemes

‘PLANNING money’ has been granted to three North Devon villages.

At a meeting of the district council’s executive, a total of £16, 800 of ‘section 106’ money obtained from developers was approved to support projects in Combe Martin, Braunton and Chulmleigh.

This includes £13,000 to repair and enhance Combe Martin seafront parade at Newberry, which has been closed for some years due to structural problems.

This is in addition to £20,000 of S106 money already allocated to the project by the council. A further £30,000 to complete the work will be provided by Combe Martin Parish Council.

The parish is hoping the structural works could be finished by the end of March. The garden areas would then need to be tidied or landscaped.

Meanwhile, £2,520 will be released to St Brannock’s Church in Braunton, to help extend the cemetery to provide more burial space.

Plus a £1,300 has been allocated to make improvements to the car park and repaint the pavilion at Chulmleigh playing fields.
