An investigation is underway to find how a host of bulky items were dumped in two streets in Bideford last Sunday.

BIDEFORD residents were shocked to wake up on Monday morning to discover their street looking like a rubbish dump.

A whole host of bulky household items including sofas, cookers, beds, mattresses and a fridge were dumped at two sites in Allhalland Street and Conduit Lane.

The council’s Enviro-Crime officer Andy Fenge is leading an investigation into the incident, checking the CCTV footage and making his own enquiries to try and establish where the property originated from.

He said: “Occasionally when somebody moves address we get one or two items placed out that shouldn’t be there.

“However this case is exceptional. It appears that someone has dumped most of the contents of their home on the street in the middle of town.

“It must have taken some time to move all of this property and someone must have seen it happening.

“We are currently making enquiries to establish who is responsible for this and would appreciate any information that the public can provide”

It is thought the incident took place on the evening of Sunday, November 11.

Torridge District Council wasalerted by a member of the public, and the green team were immediately dispatched to the site to collect all the items.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Mr Fenge on 01237 428760.
