More than 700 runners completed the new Exmouth Park run course, which took in Exmouth seafront as part of the 5k you-against-the-clock route. Exmouth’s event was the largest Parkrun turnout to date in Devon, organisers said.

Exmouth’s inaugural Parkrun kicked off in style when five-time Olympian runner Jo Pavey officially launched the event.

More than 700 runners completed the course, which took in Exmouth seafront as part of the 5k you-against-the-clock route.

Exmouth’s event was the largest Parkrun turnout to date in Devon, organisers said.

Exmouth Parkrun spokeswoman Cathy Newman said: “The flat course along the seafront very popular with participants. A large number of runners was expected but not quiet as many as the 710 finishers - making this the largest Parkrun turnout to date in Devon.

“Given the perfect conditions, it was not surprising than many people completed the 5k course in Parkrun personal bests.

“Jo Pavey completed the run with her son Jacob, one of many parents running with their children.

“With such a large turnout, including many first timers, the smooth running of the event was a remarkable success.”

Exmouth Parkrun is every Saturday, at 9am, from the Esplanade.
