Exmouth in Bloom appeal: your cash counts funding fabulous floral displays

Exmouth in Bloom celebrated the launch of its 2018 fundraising campaign at the Dolphin Hotel, in Morton Road.

Friends of Exmouth in Bloom has over the last eight years raised more than £10,000 for the cause, which has been ploughed back into the town’s floral displays.

Linda Dennis, Exmouth in Bloom Friends secretary, said: “Since 2011 the Friends group has raised almost £13,000 from membership fees and donations; quite a remarkable achievement thanks to the generosity of the community.

“We couldn’t maintain our high standard of displays without this funding coming in.”

She added: “Last year 233 members joined the Friends group, raising over £2000.

“The money was used towards the cost of floral displays in planters, troughs and flower beds in and around Exmouth town centre.

“Exmouth in Bloom, along with a loyal group of voluntary helpers, work as a team to make a positive difference to their surroundings for the benefit of the community and to attract more visitors to the town.

“After a very successful year in 2017, Exmouth in Bloom aim to retain their RHS Gold standard award and already have new planting ideas in place.”

Mrs Dennis urged supporters of the group to sign up. She said Exmouth in Bloom relied on its members to help fund and retain the town’s ‘high standard’ of floral displays.

She said: “If you have not yet renewed your membership or become a member, please join the Friends group and help to raise much needed funding towards the cost of the flower displays and hanging baskets in Exmouth.

“The Bloom committee would love to see more local businesses join up.

“Exmouth in Bloom wish to thank everyone who has recently renewed their membership and contributed some generous donations.

“Without this financial support it would be difficult to maintain the current high standard of displays.”

The fee to join the Friends group is £5 a year for a personal membership or £10 for a business, group or organisation.

Application forms are available from Exmouth Town Council Office, Exmouth library, the Tourist Information centre and Kings Garden Centre, in Hulham Road, or download a form from www.exmouthinbloom.org.uk , or contact Linda Dennis, Friends group secretary on 07879 654256.
